A sum of RM1.5 million has been allocated for this scheme to ensure such apartments are properly insured in accordance with Section 93 of the Strata Management Act 2013 (757), said state Local Government, Public Transport and New Village Development Committee chairman Ng Sze Han.

With the Apartment Insurance scheme, the state government would help claim compensation from the insurance party (Takaful) for damages resulting from fire, storm, strong wind, water tank overflow and even elevator breakdowns, he said in response to EdgeProp.my’s question at a press conference held during the inaugural First Class Strata Management Symposium 2022 in Kuala Lumpur recently.

Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS) Commissioner of Building (COB) unit head Muhd Zul Fiqah Omar, who also spoke at the event organised by MPKS, said most of these housing schemes are not insured.

“Selangor is offering funds to those who apply,” he said, adding that the scheme is under Iltizam Selangor Penyayang Programme.

“Feedback has been encouraging and those who have yet to apply can do so at the Selangor Housing and Real Estate Board (LPHS).

“Meanwhile, respective councils’ COB will also recommend low-cost properties in need of the insurance,” Zul Fiqah said.

Ng advised strata community administrations and managements to apply for the insurance.

“This insurance scheme is evidence of the state government's effort in ensuring the welfare of the people, including those living in strata housing, so that they can live safely and securely.

“Strata community administrations can apply for this scheme under the Selangor Property Housing Board (LPHS),” Ng added.
